CHANGING LIMITING BELIEFS
The RKT is a highly specialised training program tailored to the specific needs of victims of the debilitating, chronic disease states ME, PVFS and CFS.
Dr Anna Forbes tells us the accepted facts about these poorly understood, yet nevertheless, life threatening conditions:
“Medical science has been unable, as yet, to offer sufferers much in the way of remedial, let alone curative, treatment for this fiercely degenerative disease process. Instead doctors must rely on supportive treatment and symptom alleviation using often ineffective pharmacological agents.
Both Garry and I are fierce advocates of an integrated approach to healthcare. Clearly acknowledging both the positive and negative effects that the body and mind can have on each other forms a large part of this approach. In this way it is imperative that both therapist and trainee are united in the understanding of this two way relationship as demonstrated below:
Throughout the history of medicine ‘miracles’ have been reported in which victims who had been believed to have seemingly incurable diseases and afflictions have recovered of their own accord. Was it a miracle perhaps? Or merely an undeniable demonstration of the incredible power of the human mind.
I first became aware of this indisputable evidence of the mind/body relationship when working in a specialist centre in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. Working daily with some of the sickest patients in the hospital a recurrent and clear trend began to appear. How was it that patient A and patient B, initially diagnosed with exactly the same condition at exactly the same time with similar physical risk factors, could progress through their diseases at such different rates? Not only this but with differing degrees of complication and entirely different outcomes. What was it about patient A that led them to develop unforeseen infections and a more rapid decline in their overall disease state? On the other hand, patient B had exactly the same treatment but was up and out of hospital in a couple of weeks?
Closely observing many similar scenarios I was able to recognise a consistent trend in the mental approaches of the different personalities of ‘A’ patients and B patients. ‘A’ patients continued on a self-perpetuating cycle of negative thought patterns and subsequent anxiety states. ‘B’ patients demonstrated personal resilience and positive thinking.
It is our belief and experience here at the Rose Partnership that such personal attributes can be learned and maintained. The RKT then is applicable to those of us who might, by nature, lack some of the key characteristics that provide a degree of ‘patient A-ness’ to help reverse this downward spiral of negativity. In doing so, trainees and subsequent practitioners of our training program are newly empowered, armed with the skills necessary to help manage and, in many cases, largely overcome the fighting forces of their illness.
In this way you can see that this program can be used to help sufferers of other chronic illness.”
HOW DO I KNOW IF THE TRAINING PRGRAM IS FOR ME?
If you:
Suffer from a chronic debilitating disease such as ME/PVFS/CFS
Are experiencing a disease process which is hindering your quality of life
Can’t see a light at the end of the tunnel in terms of your illness
All potential candidates are invited to attend an IC (Initial Consultation). This can be likened to a formal interview during which both you and the trainer assess and discuss your suitability for the training programme.
